What this means

Cookies are small values saved by your browser. Local storage persists between visits, while session storage normally lasts for a tab session. We use these technologies for basket, checkout, private order/quote access and security rather than website advertising.

Our own storage listed below supports requested services. There is currently no Hungry Expats cookie-consent banner, Google Analytics, advertising pixel, heatmap or session-replay integration in the website.

Our necessary cookies

These first-party cookies are HttpOnly (unavailable to page scripts), Secure on the HTTPS staging/production site, and SameSite=Lax. Local HTTP development differs. The order receipt cookie is limited to its receipt path; the others use the site path.

Basket and checkout browser storage

These first-party entries are accessible to this website's scripts and do not have cookie flags. They support checkout and payment recovery, not tracking across websites.

Some local-storage entries have no automatic expiry. Clearing browser site data removes them, but does not cancel a payment or erase the server's accounting records. We do not describe these as automatically deleted after a fixed period.

Administrator sign-in

Firebase Auth uses browser storage for administrator authentication, including its firebaseLocalStorageDb IndexedDB database and Firebase authentication entries, with local/session storage fallbacks. It is not a customer account or analytics integration. The client sign-in is signed out after exchange for the server administrator session; logout clears that server session. Residual SDK storage is also removable through browser site-data controls.

PayPal and your choice

Hungry Expats does not load PayPal payment technology during ordinary browsing, on the review step or automatically when the payment page opens. On an eligible payment page, choose "Continue with PayPal" to load PayPal's payment interface. Loading it does not itself approve a payment.

When you choose to use PayPal, it may use cookies or similar technologies for payment and security, and send payment-interface diagnostic information. PayPal handles this under its own privacy statement and cookies statement. We do not claim that every PayPal technology is legally exempt or that choosing to load payment authorises unrelated advertising.

Our own basket, checkout and security storage is listed above. Hungry Expats does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies of its own. Browser controls may affect PayPal's availability or behaviour; cookies and storage may vary with your browser and existing PayPal session. We do not publish speculative PayPal cookie names.

Your choices

You can block cookies or clear site storage in your browser. Doing so may remove your basket, entered checkout details, quote access, receipt access or administrator session. Clearing recovery storage does not cancel or refund a payment: contact us before paying again if a payment may already have been taken.
